Jensen got to have a playdate at his friend’s house over the weekend and the other two, despite arguing when together, were missing him and so we decided to open our parcel of Goo Goo Galaxy toys to see what fun we could have.
Two little Goo Drops [these are alien babies] from Goo Goo Galaxy, reportedly the cutest cosmos in the universe, zoomed to our doorstep with the help of the Royal Mail, and decided to make their home with the Jones Boys Toys.
WHO ARE THE GOO DROPS?
The Goo Drops have their names printed on the outside of their packaging, which is like a little spaceship kind of pod that they’re seated in for their adventure to your home, and inside is a Goo Drop, three little packets, a smoothie cup with pretend straw and a leaflet which can be snipped into various things. There are 4 Goo Drops to collect, named Astra Nommy, Luna Laguna, Stella Skygems and Yumi Unicorn. We got Astra and Yumi.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR GOO DROPS HAPPY
What makes Goo Drops happy is to be squished and squeezed on their bespoke bellies, which are full of sparkles and glitter. Hero found it hilarious to squeeze his Goo Drop until its bottom was like a big glittery ball. They also like drinking their very glittery, sparkly concoction that they want you to make for them.
HOW TO MAKE THE GOO TO GO DRINK
Even though you can’t drink it, you can make it and look at it in awe. Each Goo Drop comes with three sachets to make a Goo drink for your Goo Drop, and a little Goo-To-Go smoothie cup.
The instructions are in the leaflet and it’s really easy [I managed to follow them]. Pour the first sachet [SLIME] into the Goo-to-go cup and mix with water – we used a chopstick as it’s too small to get a spoon into. Be careful not to get too vigorous with it as it sets quite quickly and you want it to be neat and not spread halfway up the sides of the cup. Then leave to set for half an hour. After that, pour on the next sachet [COSMIC CLOUD] and add water gradually whist this foams and froths and expands. When you’re happy, sprinkle the last sachet [STAR SHINE] on top and fasten the lid of the smoothie cup with the straw sticking through the middle. Check that the lid is on properly as Lyoto’s fell off and he lost a bit of his smoothie, resulting in lots of tears as he thought his Goo Drop would be sad.
THE JONES BOYS’ TOYS VERDICT
What the boys loved was that the Goo Goo Galaxy toys came with an activity, especially a sparkly one. Another huge plus was that the Goo Goo Galaxy toys don’t seem to attract every single hair and bit of dirt and dust in the universe, and they’ve stayed relatively smooth and clean – unlike what most toys filled with slime and goo seem to do. Hero is particularly smitten with his, which actually surprised me – he asked to take his [his is a boy apparently] to London at the weekend.
GOO GOO GALAXY – NOT FOR BOYS
As a parent, I’m again downhearted to see no boys in the imagery surrounding the advertising of the toys. We’re noticing amongst their friends that more and more as children grow up, they associate the toy on the TV with the gender it’s advertised with – and then they spread this belief through school to their friends which results in ridicule by others. Toys are for everyone, colours are for everyone, fun is for everyone. We’re very keen to be clear about this in our reviews and very proud to have children who play with toys they choose to rather than those they think they should because of their gender.
