PLAY DATE PARTY SNACK HACK [WALKERS TEAR ‘N’ SHARE CRISPS]

Sharing is caring!

I recently turned an awesome age – and although I’m starting to feel as though I might be getting myself together, the reality is I have given birth to three boys in the last 6 years.  These boys have, little by little, stolen my brain cells I’m sure.  I had baby brain – now boy brain.  I’ve lost count of the occasions I’ve missed – and it’s not because I don’t have a diary – I just lose track of days and there’s never a time I’m not at least half occupied thinking about something.

So, it’s no surprise that I am often blindsided by the boys reminding me at school pickup that Johnny or Billy, or one of their friends, is popping over for a bounce on the trampoline with his mom.  And by that I mean that his mum is coming too – not that they’re invading our home to use the trampoline – although we have been known to all have a bounce about, on occasion.

We all know that as soon as children arrive home from school they are suddenly ravenous with hunger and subsequently ransack cupboards, pantries and refrigerators in search of the perfect after school snack.

Now, if it’s just my boys then I am more than happy to hand over a packet of Jaffa Cakes or some yoghurts and go about my business – but when you have guests, you need to step up your game a little.  And so we do, with a snack that will probably ruin your little friend’s appetite for dinner and will certainly mean he will need to wash his school jumper – but it will buy you at least half an hour so you can catch up with your friend over a cup of tea and now, a huge bag of Walkers Tear ‘n’ Share, which we were sent this week to try.

There are a few reasons I love Walkers Tear ‘n’ Share.  Firstly because Walkers Crisps are practically a British institution.  I’ve grown up eating them and my family generally consider them “the” crisps of England.  Plus, Gary Lineker is pretty brilliant.

Secondly, [or thirdly if you count Gary] this new bag is brilliant.  I have no idea whether it’s [okay, maybe I do, and it probably is] because I’m getting older, but I have what we call Wagon Wheel syndrome with snacks these days.

My dad is convinced, like many other dads across the country I imagine, that Wagon Wheels have shrunk since the good old days.  I feel the same about bags of crisps.  And this is why this bag is brilliant.  Firstly, because it’s made for sharing, there are obviously more crisps in the bag, but not only that – the crisps are visible to everyone.  There’s nothing worse than being offered a crisp by someone and squishing your hand into a greasy little packet to steal one of what seems like an overall quantity of ten crisps. It just feels wrong.  Having a plentiful bag of crisps to leave open on your table or sofa whilst you’re chatting to a friend is just so much better.  It feels more grown up…at least that’s what I’m telling myself.

So, whilst I try and ensure that the boys and their friends aren’t eating our my crisps, here’s what I prepare for them.  I don’t remember a time when I’ve opened the freezer and not had ice cream – and the pantry is always home to cookies of some kind…and the sprinkles.  There are always sprinkles.

Ice Cream Cookies

You will need:

Cookies
Ice Cream in a Tub
Sprinkles

It’s that simple!

Method

All you need to do is slice carefully through the ice cream carton straight from the freezer – there’s no bending of spoons or freezing of hands as you try and scoop the ice cream from the container in pitiful little chunks – simply slice some ice cream, scatter the ice cream with sprinkles and pop it between two cookies.  It takes about 3 minutes to make and they’re always met with wide eyes and smiles.

Have you got a tried and true hack that you can share?
