I had no idea that we were going to be enjoying our first Backyard BBQ of the year this weekend – but when I woke up on Saturday, Gav casually mentioned that he’d already invited his parents over for just that – that afternoon.  After the fastest get-your-clothes-on-and-get-out-of-the-house-and-into-the-car performance in recent history [second only to the…
So the scene was cleared set, the rainbow sponge was coated in buttercream, and we were ready. It was cake smash day, the day I had dreamed about as soon as I got over the self-indulgent sadness of realising that my Baby Dragon was about to be one whole year old. We tried the cake…
AD – We were compensated for this post We’ve had elves in our home now for ten years. And I say elves, because there are 6 of them. It’s a team effort each Christmas and after ten years, even though we’re more prepared, we’re less full or original ideas. For this reason, we’re always on…
Normally, at about this point during advent, I’m ripping my hair out over how our bedroom looks. I’m praying I can clear the mess before Christmas Eve and wondering if anyone else has a normal, grown-up bedroom without random toys and dressing up garments dragged all over the floor and stuffed anywhere that might constitute…
As the Easter Bunny, Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy and the Irish Leprechauns all stopped sprinkling me with magic a (far too) long time ago, since 2010 I have sought solace in something else. Sorry magical folk. You deserted me and I’ve replaced you with the Morning Reveal. The Morning Reveal deserves its status as…
Hey, friends! Today I’m talking about Pajama Elves – a tradition that’s added a little Christmas magic to something which I do each Christmas anyhow, which is buy new PJs for the boys. When I was little, we had new nightclothes ready for Father Christmas and it was always exciting to have a bubble bath…

What a lovely thing to be able to do. I fear any Christmas trees felled round here would be from someone's garden!

This is such a heartwarming post! I love the pics. I am growing a Christmas tree to use in a couple of years too!
I am LOVING all your pictures. We have a place right up the street (literally) that sells trees, so we usually just pick one out and walk it home. I would love to chop one down someday.
That's a great tradition to have! I love the pictures and I am sure he was very excited to get his very own tree. It's a shame that a disease has destroyed all the rest of the trees!
What a beautiful family you have! Living in the city my whole life this is something I never got to experience, like EVER. I can't wait for our move so my daughter can have memories like this. You took such beautiful photos too, a shame you couldn't score a big family tree, but it's nice your boys will have their own tree this year! Lucky!
Aww. Look at him with his freshly cut tree. What a cute little man!
This brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful right of passage. That is the most adorable little tree, too!
