IT’S DISNEY BOOK WEEK 2018

Sharing is caring!

Disney Book Week

It’s Disney Book Week!  We’re so excited because bedtime means storytime and now that we’re secretly on countdown [6 days to go!] for Disneyland Paris, we’ve been watching more Disney films than ever to make sure Hero is fully prepared [we saw Avengers Infinity War at the cinema yesterday when I managed to eat half a Chocolate Orange in anticipation before the film certificate had even popped onto the screen] and now we’ve moved onto bedtime stories of characters we’ll likely encounter next week.

We were sent some books by Disney this week [thank you!] and Hero chose the titles. In with them was The Incredibles 2, and as excited as we are to have the book, we’re avoiding reading it until after the film is released on July 13th.  Heros second choice was Moana as we don’t have that story book. We have the Blu Ray, the sticker books, the toys, the tattoos, the soundtrack, the Maui themed shorts and t-shirt….but no book.  Hero was ecstatic!

Disney Book Week

I decided, in honour of Disney Book Week, to let the boys read some of my own favourite Disney books.  See those on the left hand side of the photo?  I’ve had those since I was teeny.  Inside are stories like Old Yeller, Peter and the Wolf…and Brer Rabbit with Songs of the South and Uncle Remus.  I LOVED those stories growing up, and if it wasn’t for Splash Mountain in Walt Disney World, I worry that I’d have forgotten them all entirely.  The boys love the fact that they’re reading the same books that I held as a child, and they laugh at the same silliness of poor Brer Fox that I did.

We have quite the collection of Disney books – those in the photo are just some of them, part of a collection we started building when Jens was born.  Reading is important to me because with technology advancing so fast, I worry that my boys won’t ever find the escapism and joy [I know that sounds cheesy] that I found in reading as I grew up.  So we celebrate reading, and books, and treasure them.  There are worlds waiting to be discovered – Jens would never have fallen in love with Peter Pan’s adventures, or Hiawatha’s story without books.  Books are personal, they build tiny little worlds inside our hearts.  They shape our dreams – and we all know what Walt famously said about dreams 😉

The untouched book….. July 13th, you’re our bedtime story!
