HAPPY NEW YEAR [again]! We’re a whole week into the New Year and it’s colder now in Hampshire than it has been for the whole of December [except that one day when it was so cold that the car doors were frozen shut]. So here, on time, is my first Floating Boats, Sinking Ships post of the year. These are the things that have been great this week and not so amazing. So here we go.

It’s been Christmas holidays – no school, getting up late and wearing my
My new Clever Fox planner – I LOVE new planners and I have about a thousand stickers to keep me up to date with everything. Well, that’s the plan anyway.
We went to see Fantastic Beasts 2! It was my second time seeing it but everyone else’s first and it was even better the second time around. Plus now I can talk to Gav about it without him giving me the evil eye. Hahaha.
We bought the boys quadruple bunk beds. Somehow Gav needs to claim his place in a bed back, and so the boys will have a giant bed in their room. When Jens found out why there were two new mattresses rolled up in the hallway, he ran upstairs shouting, “GUYS! Our life is about to change, RIGHT NOW!” Haha. Gav is thinking sleep, the boys are thinking DENS.
I managed to apply for Lyoto’s school place within the time limits. Miracle!

It’s school tomorrow. Boo. I already have the “back to school” sinking feeling in my stomach and I’m not even going anywhere except school runs. Speaking of which…
SCHOOL RUNS. How I hate the school run. Every two and a half hours I’m up and out of the house – 8.20, 12.20, 3, 5.30. I suppose I should be grateful I’m getting some exercise now that Gav can drive again though after his ankle incident.
Christmas is over. This year although we managed to get more done than we usually do, I really felt like the magic was lacking there. I wish we’d had more days to do fun things, but with school breaking up so late it was a race to the finish with performances and school events, and then BOOM, it was Christmas Eve as soon as we finished. Plus this year we didn’t visit Father Christmas at Lapland UK or anywhere like Legoland that we did last year and I really felt like I’d dropped the ball there too. Sigh. Mom guilt strikes again.
Dad was feeling poorly with aches and pains from his cancer treatment, and so instead of coming to visit us this year at Christmas, Granny and Grandad had to stay at home, which meant not playing with their presents with them.
I need to visit the dentist. My tooth at the back is ruined thanks to my eating disorder in my twenties, and although it’s held out it probably needs to come out but thanks to a dentist visit in my twenties I’m also terrified to visit. I also wouldn’t visit my son’s dentist because I’m so ashamed :/
PMT. Yes, Christmas week was PMT week.
I have my first bug of the year and slept most of Saturday on Gav,
Finally, we’ve applied for Hero [summer born] to have decelerated entry to year R and I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be an uphill struggle.

Here’s hoping next week is cheerier with more Floating Boats than Sinking Ships!
