So I’m three days late with this post which is fine because I am chasing my tail in every other aspect of my life. BlogOn is only one week away and I am whittling my session down to try and cram everything into 45 minutes whilst trying to keep on top of homework from three corners [Hero presented us with a colouring sheet as his homework for pre-school so as not to be left out], make sure the house doesn’t descend into its normal state, and stay sane, whilst at the back of my mind there’s Hallowe’en and Christmas calling out to me, reminding me of the awful job I did of both events last year. This year I have to do better, I keep telling myself.
Beans LOVES preschool! After three days of quiet, “Don’t Leave Me” comments spoken quietly to me along with the most haunting looks of abandonment given to me in the early days, by the end of the first week he was bouncing in [relatively] and loves his key workers very much. We had to take Friday off as after falling asleep on the sofa Thursday at 5.45 pm [this never happens] and sleeping through until 6 am, he fell asleep AGAIN on the sofa at 11 am the next day he was so worn out by all of the socialising!
Jensen loved his first county Beaver Camp day – he took part in about a dozen different activities and came home with a new water bottle, t-shirt and frisbee.
We’ve made it through two weeks of school with no organisational chaos. Our new afterschool routine has really paid off and it’s made mornings very stress free, and I’ve actually enjoyed getting up to make the lunches and walk the boys to school every morning. Two weeks is a record.
I have managed a personal goal of being showered and having makeup on for all but one school run morning over these weeks. Getting up at 6 am makes a world of difference, especially if I go for a wander to the shop for bread before getting started. By 9am I’ve got everything done and can relax with Beans for the morning.
I bought the Star Wars advent calendar! No rushing around last minute, trying to find somewhere that hasn’t sold out! Now I just need to keep it away from those nosey little people.
Jens lost his first front tooth – and he looks adorable. So much more like a little boy than the grown up junior school boy he was fast becoming – I have a little, gappy-toothed vampire smiling at me cheekily and I love it.
I’m traveling to BlogOn with my dear, wonderful friend Debbie from An Organised Mess. My first friend in the blogging world, she’s a rock and I can’t wait for our four hour drive so I can find out what’s been going on in her life lately 🙂 We’re also sharing a room so we can make sure we’re up in time for the conference on the Sunday 😉 Ha ha.
I finally found a white petticoat for my BlogOn dress! It’s not the one I wanted from Vivien of Holloway but they still have no idea when they’ll have new stock in and so I’ve returned to my cheap and cheerful Little Wings Factory. I’m happy that I’ll look Wintery for the conference now and not be sporting a pink or blue frilly lining.
I have a shiner. Yes, a big good ole’ bruise on my left eye thanks to a flying toy this weekend. After the most disastrous of Saturdays [mainly because it was raining cats and dogs and we’re housebound as we still have no car in sight] Hero had finally decided to take a nap and whilst the two bigger boys were playing an over the top game, I managed to get slammed in the eye with Casey Jones of TMNT fame. Bump on the side of my head where the toy whipped around my head, and a nasty bruise *just* in time for BlogOn. One day of the year I need to look relatively normal and I resemble a mom-thug.
Our sink plumbing decided to give up. Stinky, yucky water everywhere in the kitchen led to me desperately trying to buy some gaffer tape from our local hardware shop by the school on my way home from dropping the boys. Sadly for me, the man who owns the store with his wife only likes to accept debit card payments for 75p from blonde haired ladies with low tops that he wants to flirt with, rather than £4.75 rolls of tape to moms who wear trainers, waterproof anoraks and ask nicely because they don’t want their kitchen to completely flood.
After the aforementioned episode in the hardware shop, I sat and sobbed in the stinky kitchen whilst Beans hugged me.
Thanks to my new weekday “up at 6 am” routine, I wake up the same time at the weekend, and so Friday night I fell asleep trying to watch the first episode of the new series of Hannibal, Saturday night watching Top of the Lake and tonight I’m betting I don’t make it much into the Woman in Black on Netflix. Zzzz.
Our Slimming World consultant left :/ I know I don’t post a great deal on here about my weight loss [nearly 2 and a half stone gone so far] but I love our group and as well as missing our very tolerant consultant, I’m sad that our group dynamic will now change. SW is my safe place.
