After breastfeeding my first son, our Little Adventurer Jensen Indiana Jones for 17 months, I like to think I learned a great deal about the ins and outs of it all. Embarking on my second breastfeeding journey with our Baby Dragon, things have been so much different ~ and more pleasurable.
Today I’m going to write about something that has (as I discovered this past week out and about) made breastfeeding so much more comfortable for me; a product I fear I might never leave the house without again.
I’ve been very fortunate to have been sent Thrupenny Bits’ Ultimate Dotty Pillow to review by the creator herself, Melissa. You can read all about her here.
Ready? Let’s look at the nitty-gritty first.
The Ultimate Pillow measures 65cm x 32cm and is the biggest size pillow of Thruppenny Bits’ range.
The materials used are luxurious and tactile. On one side is a
soft, red velvet (which matches my sofa!) and on the other a harder
wearing dotted fabric. It is quite simply gorgeous. The pillow casing is fully machine washable.
The fabric selections in the range are changed often which results in
your particular bag being part of a limited edition, which I love.
The pillow is filled with an inner lining containing polystyrene
fire retardant balls which should be removed before washing (the sack,
not the balls, or your house will look like Christmas time has come
Each bag is handmade and is beautifully finished. I squealed with delight when I opened it; it really is a luxury item.
Made in England! I love that. No air miles, no carbon footprint, no child labour (aside from the cute little babies who posed for the photographs on the site, but I’m sure they were paid in snuggles).
Not Your Average Pillow
There are two additional aspects to the pillow which make it so special.
Indoors we left the pillow on the back of the sofa so it was grabbable whenever. What I loved about the strap (besides it preventing slipping) was that when the doorbell rang, as it invariably will the moment I sit down to feed, when I stood up I only had to worry about holding Baby Dragon. The pillow simply dropped like a padded apron and then when I had finished at the door, I sat back down again, pillow still in place. No readjusting, no fussing and fidgeting. It made disruptions so much easier to deal with.Whilst we were out and about, I carried it around over my shoulder like a bag and my husband carried it slung across his body with the cushion part on his back. It is
practically weightless. However, if you’re unable to carry it on your body and you use a pushchair, it would be just as easy to pop over
the handles if you prefer. The ties are long
enough to allow for both.
well as the adjustable tie which makes this a one-size fits all
product, there’s more. The Ultimate Pillow is not JUST a pillow! Open
the pillow (as I did to look at the filling) and you’ll discover two
pockets. It’s a bag!
I managed to take my camera, my bamboo wipes and a
snack for Jensen with me in our bag on our trip. This is such a brilliant
idea as I have lost count of the times I have been feeding whilst out and realised there is no bamboo wipe to hand for any sicky
that’s re-distributed to me by my kind and loving Baby Dragon. He likes
to share 😉 Having this already packed and my necessary items altogether means no rifling
through a pram bag and you can be confident that you have everything you need all
in one place.
